bio
Jasper van den Ham is a Dutch visual artist whose practice moves between painting and works on paper, exploring the shifting boundaries of landscape, interior, and imagined space. Rooted in memory, observation, and personal experience, his work reflects an ongoing fascination with the ways places are remembered, transformed, and reimagined.
Originally trained as a fine art photographer, Van den Ham gradually turned towards drawing and painting, developing a visual language in which light, composition, and perspective remain central. While his photographic background continues to inform his approach, his paintings move beyond representation, allowing memory and imagination to reshape familiar environments.
Having moved frequently throughout his childhood, Van den Ham developed an enduring sensitivity to notions of place, belonging, and displacement. These themes continue to shape his artistic practice, where architectural fragments, landscapes, and intimate spaces become expressions of both physical and emotional experience.
His artistic journey has also brought him to Marrakech, where he has participated in artist residencies at Riad Jardin Secret, hosted by Rigotang. These periods of immersion have offered opportunities to explore new surroundings, light, and atmospheres, extending his ongoing dialogue with place and memory.
In 2015, Van den Ham received the Culture Prize Woerden, followed by his selection for NewPhoto: Dutch Photography Talent in 2017. His work has been presented at exhibitions and art fairs, including KunstRAI and PAN Amsterdam.
Jasper van den Ham is represented by Contempo Gallery in Rotterdam and Rigotang Gallery in Marrakech.
